Gay Butler Obituary

On October 28, 1964, Charlie and Rosia Lee Jones Butler welcomed into the world, the 6th of their 8 children, a beautiful baby girl named Gay Anjanette Butler.  Affectionately called ‘Gay Baby’ by her parents and siblings, she was educated in the public schools of Madison Parish, graduating as an honor student before entering college at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA.  There she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing in 1986.  She furthered her education at Amber University, receiving a Master of Science degree in Human Relations and Business in the Fall of 1999.

Gay accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord in July 1975, joining the congregation of believers at St. John Missionary Baptist Church on Somerset.  Upon relocating to the DFW area, Gay joined the congregation of Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Arlington, TX, where she faithfully served on the Usher Board and in the Evangelism Ministry, as well as completing coursework at the Mount Olive Bible Institute where in 2006 she was Valedictorian and in 2010 earned the Doctorate of Humanities degree.

Following in the footsteps of her older sisters, Gay was inducted into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Fall, 1999, in the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter in Dallas, TX.  Their line name was AKAllennium.

In September, 1987, Gay was pinned as a flight attendant with American Airlines and continued her tenure with them until her untimely passing.  In addition to flying, she also taught at American Airlines’  Learning Academy.

In her leisure time, Gay became a realtor and took acting, sign language and modeling classes.  She volunteered with Big Brothers / Big Sisters for many years.  She was an Airline Ambassador and member of the Association of African American Flight Attendants where she travelled to venues around the world assisting in various humanitarian events.  But most important to her was never missing an opportunity to engage in activities with family and support her nieces and nephews in all their endeavors.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Charlie Sr. and Rosia Lee Jones Butler; grandparents, David and Rachel Jones; her great uncle James Butler and niece Reign.  Gay leaves to cherish her memories, seven siblings, Dennis Butler (Michelle), Dr. Doze Y. Butler, Deborah Butler, Donna Butler Bowie (Reginald), Gregory Butler Sr., Dr. Charlie Butler, Jr. (Sonya), Chastity Butler; nieces and nephews, Tarayla Butler Brooks (Kelvin), Armond Butler, Samantha Butler, Jazmyne Butler, Gregory Butler, Jr. (Hannah), Devon Bowie, Cameron Sims whom she treated as a son, Joucoby Butler and Chelsea Thomas; special cousin, Larry Phillips; god children; beloved McCall High School Class of 1982, including her Les Filles Unique friends
