Mr. Freddie Bass Obituary

Reflections of the Life of

Freddie “Smokey” Bass

Freddie Leon Bass was the second child of fifteen born to the late Erma Lee Ewell-Smith and the late Willie James Bass when he arrived on March 4, 1955 in Newellton, Louisiana.

Freddie accepted Christ at a young age at Shackleford Baptist Church, where he was also a faithful member. Freddie received his formal education in the Louisiana Public School System, beginning in Newellton, Louisiana, and finishing in Tallulah, Louisiana.

Freddie was a hard-working man who enjoyed working and building with his hands. He was a personal assistant to Lynn Goss industries for many years. He was also a transporter and assistant farmer to Gary P. Jones. He had his own lawn service business with his longtime friend and business partner, John Randle. He also worked for Yates Construction, and from there he retired.

Freddie traveled many places around the country and the world during his life through work and leisure. He was a family man who loved being surrounded by loved ones and spreading his infectious smile to others. He was a true outdoorsman; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and leisurely country living.

He married his wife of nineteen years, Bertha Bass, on April 29, 2000.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Erma Lee Ewell-Smith, father, Willie James Bass, sister, Sharon Smith, grandson, Courtney Dickerson, Jr., and niece, Yolanda Ewell-Stewart.
