Deacon Odell Beckwith, affectionately known as “Pee-Wee”, was born November 3, 1945, to the late Willie Beckwith and Allean Bass-Beckwith in Gilbert, LA. Odell (Pee-Wee) confessed Christ at an early age, under the leadership of Reverend R.N. Teats at Cuba Baptist Church. Odell (Pee-Wee) faithfully and proudly served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher until his transition to his heavenly home.
He attended Cuba Elementary from the 1st grade through the eighth grade. He then attended Franklin Parish Training School, where he graduated in 1963. He was drafted into the United States Army in November 1965 and served two years.
Odell (Pee-Wee) was a pillar to his community, and he was loved and respected by people both old and young. He touched the lives of many in the community. He never met a stranger, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was employed by the Franklin Parish School Board for many years as a bus driver. He was also self-employed as a farmer and barber for many years.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Willie and Allean Beckwith, one sister, Lollie-Ann Harvey, and one brother, Eugene Beckwith.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Jean Ezell Beckwith of Gilbert, LA; five sons, Jeffery and Steven Floyd (Faith) both of Houston, TX, Marvin Cameron (Rita) of Monroe, LA, Ken Brass (Martha) of Round Rock, TX, and Devin Beckwith of Gilbert, LA; three daughters, Sonya Douglas (Micheal) and Alesia Williams (Gregory), both of Monroe, LA, and Maya Thomas of Baton Rouge, LA; one grandson he reared, Henry (DJ) Rose; four sisters, Williemena Carroll, Diann Beckwith, and Debra Brown (David), all of Monroe, LA, and Lois Bennett (Robert) of Baton Rouge, LA; three brothers, Carl Beckwith (Sharon), Darry Beckwith (Sandra), and Larry Beckwith, all of Baton Rouge, LA; a very special cousin, Lennie Skipper; one auntie-in-law; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
