Debra Reed Obituary

Debra Bernice Davis Reed, better known as “Deb” was born November 30, 1959, to proud parents Ambrose and Josephine Davis in Tallulah, La. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Reverend Tom Prather at Zion Flower Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully in many capacities within the church. She also fell in love with and attended Pleasant Grove #1 Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Oscar W. Hamilton Jr. until her health prevented her. Debra later married James Reed III and to this union their son James (June) Reed IV was born. Debra was a productive young woman always working possessing a nurturing spirit; she took care of “our” mother until she was called home to Glory! (We’re thankful for you Deb!) Deb loved elderly people, she called them her “Babies”. She was employed with Madison Parish Nursing Home, an Insurance Agent at Haywood Fair Security Plan Insurance Company, and a sitter with Matilda’s Housesitters until she landed her job with Beckwith Golden Gate Funeral Home which was her pride and joy. She was employed with Beckwith’s until her health started to fail, Deb really loved her job and those with whom she worked. On December 25, 2018 Debra Bernice Davis Reed passed away on her eldest sister’s birthday (Susie Rodell), who she joined in that Great Cloud of Witnesses along with her parents Ambrose and Josephine Davis, her brothers: Spencer, Ambrose Jr, Roosevelt, Robert and 7 that passed during birth before she was born. Cherishing and celebrating Deb’s journey, her loving son James (June) Reed IV, sisters Willie B. Davis of Humble, TX, Betty Gaskin (Larry) of Las Vegas, NV and one brother Elmore Davis of Chicago, Ill, her traveling friend Vickie Gathrite and Larry Gathrite their granddaughter Arriea Jones who Deb adored and called her godbaby, her Goddaughter Ke’Don Boyd. She also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who loved her and will miss her dearly. Deb was a true woman of God-A True Warrior, possessed a quiet spirit, sweet disposition and a beautiful smile. Those who knew and loved her knew her signature phone or text ending…”I Love You More!” Fly High Deb…We Love YOU More!!
