MR. EDWARD McCREE Obituary

Edward Curtis McCree, Sr., was born to the late H.P. and Ruthie McCree, on May 18, 1939, on Ashley Plantation in Tallulah, Louisiana.

He recognized the need for a great change in his life and was baptized in 1958, under the leadership of the late Rev. Bennie Luckett.

He received his early education from the Madison Parish School District. Following his high school graduation, he briefly attended Grambling College before entering the United States Air Force in 1961, obtaining an honorable discharge in 1964. After his military duties, he continued his education at Grambling State University, where he received a B.S. degree in Education. He later received his Masters in counseling from NLU-Monroe Louisiana.

He passed to his Heavenly Reward quietly, on Monday, February 3, 2020, at Merit Health River Region in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

He was an educator and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. As an educator, he taught in the Madison Parish School District for one year. He continued his teaching career at Delta Ouachita Vocational School in West Monroe for over 20 years, and later served as the Assistant Director until his retirement in 1999.

He united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Virginia Johnson McCree in March 1962, and was blessed with three children, Edward Curtis, Jr. (who preceded him in death), and twins, Ramon and Ramona.

He loved the Lord with all of his heart. He also loved music, photography, and bird watching. But the love of his life was his four beautiful granddaughters. He frequently quoted Dr. Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

He leaves to cherish memories of his legacy and love: his devoted wife of 57 years, Virginia J. McCree; son, Ramon of Tallulah, LA; daughter, Ramona (Jerome) of Monroe, LA; daughter-in-law, Jacinda Johnson-McCree of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Nicole Mack of Atlanta, GA, Jeremy Greer of New Mexico, Jayla Greer of Monroe, LA, Ja’Mya Greer of Monroe, LA, and Sydney McCree of Fort Worth, TX; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Shears (Gilbert) of Carson, CA, Rosa Walk (Carl) of Tallulah, LA, Ardenia Dunlap of Tallulah, LA, Vivian Harvey of Monroe, LA, Harold Johnson of Tallulah, LA, Porter Johnson (Jeanette) of Delhi, LA, and Larry Johnson of Tallulah, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
