BOOKER T. WASHINGTON, III

Booker Telleferro Washington, Ill entered the world on May 30, 1955, in Sondheimer, Louisiana, to the embrace of parents Booker T. and Willie Jean Brown Washington. As the eldest among six siblings and the third bearer of the name Booker T., he was affectionately known as "Junnie." Junnie's formative years unfolded in East Carroll Parish, culminating in his graduation from Lake Providence High School in the Class of

1973. He learned the art of carpentry and woodworking from his parents, actively participating in community construction projects and contributing to the expansion of their family home.

Yearning to experience city life, Junnie moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and later returned home to Louisiana. Eventually, he relocated to Las Vegas, NV, his home for nearly 30 years. Junnie had a passion for automobiles, home cooked food, family bonds, and sports. He eagerly anticipated the family reunions, cherishing moments spent in conversation with loved ones. He was immensely proud of the opportunity to serve his Las Vegas community as an ice cream vendor. While his allegiance to football teams fluctuated, his enduring love for the Las Vegas Aces women's basketball team remained steadfast.

In his youth, Junnie was baptized and became a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.C. Cable. Upon his return to Sondheimer, he was ordained as a Deacon by Bishop C.H. Murray, Pastor of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. After returning to Las Vegas, he found spiritual solace at Iglesia Ni Cristo Locale of Las Vegas where he remained a dedicated member until his passing.

After grappling with health challenges for an extended period, Junnie peacefully departed this life on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 8:56 AM, at PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his father, Booker T. Washington, Jr, mother, Willie Jean Washington; sister, Shirley Redden; and brother, Ira Johnson.

Washington, IV (North Port, FL), Marvin Washington (Dallas, TX), and Dewan (Shana) Washington (St. Paul, MN); stepchildren Ivory Wright and Yolanda Wright (Las Vegas, NV). Siblings: Nathaniel (Mary) Washington (Richlands, NC), Patricia Washington (Slidell, LA), Tracy Washington (Shreveport, LA), Cornelius Washington (Slidell, LA), Jennifer Washington (Slidell, LA), a beloved brother-in-law: Dennis Redden, Sr. (Shreveport, LA); sister-in-law, Hazel Johnson (West Monroe, LA); five grandchildren: Booker T.

Washington, V, Tristan Washington, Arquarius Robertson, Dewan Washington, Jr., and Selenne Washington. In addition to his immediate family, he is mourned by his nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
