“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
~ 2 Timothy 4:7
John Mosby, Jr., affectionately known as “Son” was born on September 19, 1933, in Lake Providence, Louisiana. He was the second of eight children born to the late Margaret and John Mosby, Sr.
John accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He became a devoted and faithful deacon and served at Mt. Olive under the pastorate of the late Rev. Toston, the late Rev. Ferguson Johnson, and current pastor, Rev. Dr. E.C. Mitchell.
He started working at the age of eight years old and has been working ever since. John worked at Larche Farms (formerly known as Tomlinson Farms), where he was employed and loved by his work family for 50+ years.
He will be remembered for his peaceful spirit, big heart, gentleness, and his words of wisdom. He had such an awesome personality. He would ride, speak, and smile at everyone he passed. He NEVER met a stranger. He loved and nurtured many on his Earthly journey. Let John tell it, a cowboy hat and plaid shirt goes with everything.
On November 3, 2020, John heard his Master’s call saying, “Come to me, My Child, and be at rest.” He traded his temporary life here on Earth for everlasting life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and John Mosby, Sr.; wife, Myrtis Mosby; and siblings, James Mosby, Mable Williams, Evelyn Mosby, Rosie Askew, Bessie Walker, Will Johnson, and Al Mosby.
His legacy will continue to thrive through: his four daughters, Patricia Hampton (Edward) of Lake Providence, LA, Linda Johnson, Glenda Johnson, both of Oakland, CA, and Warletia Denham (Fredrick) of Baton Rouge, LA; son, Ned Ellis (Demetria) of Grand Prairie, TX; grandchildren, Tajuana Hampton, Eddrick Hampton, Nedra Winston, Katrisha Hampton, Kaylan Bell, Lakendria Dukes, Whitney Bell, Demetric Wilson, and Victoria Johnson; a special friend, Bobbie Holmes of Lake Providence, LA; Pop’s boy, Dexter Holmes of Arlington, TX; special cousins, Willie Mae Powell and Frank Powell of Lake Providence; close friend, Sam Toston; special nieces, Patricia Johnson, Margaret Mosby, Deloris Mosby, Audry Anthony, and Patricia Williams; nephews, James Mosby, Eddie Williams, Mark Williams, Michael Williams, Willie Johnson, and Cornell Harvey; and a multitude of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
