Virgil L. Brooks
was born on June 16, 1973, in Tallulah, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Johnny Brooks, Sr., and Mrs. Gladys (Lovie) Brooks, both of Tallulah, LA, and a special nephew, Charles Brooks, Jr., of Las Vegas, NV.
He was married to Yolonda Brooks, of Vicksburg, MS, on February 16, 2008, until his passing. He completed his education at Reuben McCall Senior High School in Tallulah, LA. He worked in the hotel industry for several years in both Vicksburg, MS and Las Vegas, NV. He was employed at the West Side Canary Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, NV at the time of his death. He was known as a gentle giant, and many of his family members called him, “Big V.” He liked to play boxing and wrestling, and taught most of his nephews how to fight.
Virgil lived in Tallulah, LA for the majority of his life, but made his final move to Las Vegas, NV in 2016 to live near his brothers. He remained there until he departed this life on Friday, August 28, 2020, after a brief illness.
Virgil loved his family and his children were his world. He was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by: four children, Tamara Brooks, Tia Brooks, Toran Brooks, and Jocelyn Hester, all of Tallulah, LA; one step-son, Javarias Rafes of Vicksburg, MS; seventeen siblings, Katina Brooks, Karen (Andre) Cooper, Lakim (Michael) Lewis, Latonya Brooks, Lisa Brooks, Betty (Monroe) Davis, Linda Brooks, Mary Johnson, Dorothy Sanders, Gary (Keisha) Brooks, Billy Brooks, Ronald (Lisa) Brooks, Michael (Kathy) Brooks, Charles (Joyce) Brooks, Johnny Earl (Angie) Brooks, Jerry Johnson, and Johnny (Pamela) Brooks, Jr.; a special niece, Lakimberly (Lequan) Bingham of Tallulah, LA; his two grandchildren, Sa’ Miyah and Gabrielle, both of Tallulah, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other relatives. Virgil was loved by all and will be missed by many!
