On May 3, 1958. Emma Brown was blessed with her last baby girl, whom she named Betsy Jean Brown. She was baptized at an early age. She attended Waterproof High School, where she graduated in 1976. She went on to attend Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. Betsy worked for the Jefferson Parish School System for the last 25 years. She was a very committed Christian who loved the Lord. She was a pastor at Temple of Truth Ministries, under Apostle DeWanda Owens, in Gretna, LA.
Betsy Williams went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at her home in Harvey, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her mom, Emma Brown; her dad, Clarence Strawder, Sr.; and five sisters, Barbara Jean Buchanan, Loretta Gilmore, Carrie Taylor, Marie Helton, and Irma Bryant.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, LaToya Brown and Jasmine Williams of Harvey, LA; two sons, Gene (Ashante) of LaPlace, LA, and Joshua Williams of Harvey, LA; two grandchildren, Amari Evans and Durell Hawkins, Jr.; seven sisters, Thelma Snowden, Annie Cox (Michael), Patricia Strawder Wiley of Waterproof, LA, Mary Louise Strawder, Hazel Strawder, Edna Tonstant of Houston, TX, and Sheryl Vaughn of Memphis, TN; four brothers, Ben Brown III, Frank Brown (Joyce) of Waterproof, LA, Clarence Strawder, Jr., of Houston, TX, and James Earl Strawder of Clinton, MS; one aunt, Henrietta Hamilton of Tallulah, LA; a devoted friend, Pam Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
