Obituary LaVeter Brooks was born to proud parents, Eddie Mae Shields and Jimmy Thorns, Sr., who would both precede her in death. LaVeter confessed her love for God at Shiloh Baptist Church. Baptized by Rev. Benjamin Battle. Later, she became a member of Flowery Mount Baptist Church. She attended school and graduated from Davidson High School in 1978. Laveter met and married Leon Brooks, Sr., but just like seasons change, things in our lives change. Due to the changes, she met Monroe Lee, Jr., whom became her love and life-long partner. Amazing things happened and the most amazing thing that came of the situation is that they were blessed with Deoloa (Jeremy) Washington, Edria (Shelby) Brooks, and a son, Leon Brooks, Jr., who preceded her in death. LaVeter would also be preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence (Shug) Bowman, Rev. Jesse (Anna) Shields Bowman, Lionel Bowman, and Robert Thorns. LaVeter leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, DeOla Washington (Jeremy Washington, Sr.) and Edria Brooks (Shelby Washington); four loving grandchildren, Travon Lewis, Ny’Kell Brooks, Heaviyn Dunbar, and Ky’Wann Washington; a niece she treated as a daughter, LaPeteria Watson; two godchildren, Samantha Roach and Rosie Honeywood “Star” (Henry); one godsister, Diane (Sammy) Honeywood; four sisters, Patricia (Eugene) Watson of St. Joseph, LA, Margaret (Johnathion) Rhone, Clodell (Phillip) Henderson of St. Joseph, LA, and Edna (Edward) Thorns-Nelson of Las Vegas, NV; six brothers, Eddie Thorns of St. Joseph, LA, William Bowman (Rosemary) of CA, George Shields of Phoenix, AZ, Fred Thomas of Jackson, MS, Jimmy (Kathy) Thorns, Jr., of New Orleans, LA, and Lawrence (Euwanda) Thorns of Dallas, TX; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends
